I came home from a family reunion that was heaven on earth and found that a bit of earth had gone back to heaven…  Susan, wife of Elden (better known as “Fatty” of www.fatcyclist.com), and mother of four, died of cancer tonight.

Susan is the kind of woman I want to become: she’s not a supermodel, she’s not rich or witty or false.  Susan is strong – because she has faith.  Susan is gracious – because she has hope.  Susan is utterly selfless – because she has charity. 

I want to live like Susan.  I want to be true to who I am and what I believe through it all, and to never lose sight of what’s important in the rush of what’s temporary. 

I want to fight like Susan.  I want to face the good times and the bad times with that kind of resilient peace and enduring trust. 

And when it is my turn to die, I want to die like Susan.

To everyone who has loved and lost someone too soon:  FIGHT LIKE SUSAN.
