Starry Night Yellow Cake
We’ve been studying Van Gogh’s Starry Night this month in school. Maybe “studying” isn’t the right word. We’ve been playing with it.
I put a poster up on the wall, eye level with our toddler so they could touch it, trace it, and get really familiar with the painting.
The first night, I saw this as I was heading to bed:
Our next project (remember, this is for a 2-yr old and a 5-yr old, so I haven’t gone too in-depth with this theme) was a Starry Night Cake for family night.
TA-DA!
She helped ice about half that yellow cake… (and I just decided not to make brown and dark blue and green icing because it was getting late. You can still see the inspiration, I think). Do you see the look on her face? “Okay, Mom, I’m smiling. Can I EAT this cake now?”
Our last project will be an oil-based paint print based on the colors from Starry Night.
Have a little fun with your kids! I guarantee that every time my daughter sees Starry Night, she will remember eating it.

Okay, that first picture is TOO CUTE! And what a great idea! I think I need to hang a different piece of art work on my fridge every week just so they get familiar with it.
And that cake is WAY cute!
so cool Becca- I love your homeschool ideas- I never think of things like that
