How to Photograph Babies
1. Shoot wide.
Open that aperature. Get that number as low as you can.
2. Shoot in natural light and look for catchlights.
It really makes those colors pop and evens out skin tones.
3. Get up close and personal.
Fill your frame with that beautiful face. Or hands. Or feet.
4. Come together, right now.
Bring people together to show relationships. Little hands holding a big hand, wedding rings on little fingers. Here, I showed the contrast in respective sizes, textures (the worn feet verses the creamy smooth baby feet), and ability (they can both stand – a new development for the baby).
My pictures are a little on the cool side. That’s okay. That’s the look we were going for. Don’t be afraid of a little color, but do be aware of it. Shoot with intent and watch for fortuitous moments!
