Wondering what to do at your annual bbq?  Here are 10 fun and easy games and activities for your Memorial Day celebration!

1. Fly a kite! Make Your Own Kite or get a sky-ready version at your local supermarket and head to the park.
2. Yankee Doodle Hats. Make hats out of paper plates and construction paper. Decorate them with "noodles" (curled paper), real elbow macaroni pieces, and "feathers" and tie them around your head with a piece of yarn. Sing Yankee Doodle Dandy.
3. Charades. Even little kids can get into the act.
4. Kazoo Band. Break out the kazoos and play along to John Philip Sousa’s fantastic Stars and Stripes Forever - download here!
5. Learn more about Memorial Day by having an internet Treasure Hunt. The formatting on this Education World site is old, but the material is classic and relevant.
6. Bubbles. Make giant bubble wands or use generic bubble accessories.     My family loves Gazillion bubbles. They float forever! Here are some cute mini bottles you can hand out to everyone at your barbeque.
7. Sack Race. Use old pillowcases or get leftover sacks from your local co-op or feed stores. (Just make sure to call and ask them to keep a few for you first.)
8. Toothpick Toss. This works great with the tassel-ended giant toothpicks. Draw a line on the floor or put a stick on the  ground. Stand behind the line and see who can throw their "spear" the farthest! Best out of three wins.
9. Blindfolded Marshmallow Race. This makes everyone laugh. 4-10 players. Have a bag of (non-sticky!) marshmallows, 4 bowls, and 2 spoons. Split into teams. One player from each team competes blindfolded. They start with a full bowl of marshmallows and an empty bowl. Give them a spoon and then let them get as many marshmallows from one bowl to the other in 30 seconds. The player with the most wins. Then go to the next player until everyone on both teams has had a chance to play. The team with the most won rounds wins. Maybe they get to eat dessert first.
10. Water Balloon Volleyball! Set up a net and use sheets to toss your big water balloons over the net. Each team has one sheet - everyone has to hold on and run together to where the balloon is falling, catch it gently in the sheet (too tight and the balloon will pop, too slack and the balloon will hit the ground and pop), and then flip it back over the net to the other team. Great for laughs and cooling off in the hot weather.
